– Recoup draft capital

With the Rams going for it all the past few seasons, it has resulted in them mortgaging their future for them right now. Even though they didn’t win the Super Bowl in 2018, they still were NFC Champions, and that is a great accomplishment.

However, with the desire to win-now, the Rams had to mortgage their future. The most notable deal for the Rams was the decision to acquire Jalen Ramsey from the Jacksonville Jaguars last season.

With their defense looking lost to start the season, the Rams went out and got one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. However, the price to do so wasn’t cheap. The Rams traded their first-round pick this year, next year, and a fourth-rounder in 2021.

This was a steep price for a player that was going to be a free agent, but the franchise believed that Ramsey had the potential to turn the defense around. Looking back at it now, the deal was certainly a failure, as the Rams didn’t even make the playoffs last season.

With the team being down two first-round picks from the trade, moving Cooks could help them recoup some draft capital. While Cooks has previously been traded for a first-round pick twice already in his career, he wouldn’t bring back that type of return coming off a bad season with a big contract. However, if the Rams can get a mid-round pick for Cooks and dump the contract, it is something to consider.
