Recent Rams rumors are that Brandin Cooks is on his way to the Houston Texans according to Ian Rapoport.

As we approach the 2020 NFL Draft, there have been plenty of Rams rumors about what they might do leading up to the draft.

Recently, the Rams surprised many when they decided to let running back Todd Gurley go. Letting Gurley leave would have been unthinkable just a few years ago, but with his strange knee issue, and decline in production, the Rams decided to cut ties and move on.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Rams have now traded Brandin Cooks to the Houston Texans with a 2022 fourth-round pick for the Texans’ 2nd round pick this season.

Seeing Cooks being dealt shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. Cooks is coming off a down season and is making a good chunk of money. Last season, Cooks totaled 42 receptions, 583 receiving yards, and two receiving touchdowns.

Considering he was one of the highest-paid players on the team, the production certainly didn’t meet the paycheck. While Cooks did have a down season last season, part of which can be attributed to injuries, he has been over 1,000 receiving yards multiple times and is still just 26-years-old.

After the Texans shockingly traded DeAndre Hopkins, they needed to get someone with some upside to replace him. While Cooks isn’t the same level of player that Hopkins is, he should be able to fit in well with Deshaun Watson.

For the Rams, getting rid of Cooks will save them some money, and they also get another draft pick to use this season. Considering they are without a first-round pick for the next two seasons, having two second-round picks this season will be a welcomed sight.

Even though the Rams are just recently removed from a Super Bowl appearance, this is a team that has some holes to fill. Now, the Rams can select two potential starting-caliber players in the second round. While the draft process will be tricky this season, the Rams getting back some good draft equity for Cooks was a nice move.
