Los Angeles Rams: 3 Reasons trading Brandin Cooks was a smart move

– Adds draft capital
In the deal with the Texans, the Rams were able to get a pretty nice return for Cooks. The reported deal by Rapoport resulted in a second-round pick, which is the 57th overall pick going to Los Angeles.
While the Rams did have to throw in a future fourth-round pick with Cooks, this a good acquisition for the Rams. They will have some nice flexibility to be able to use multiple picks in the second round or potentially even make a move back into the first round.
The Rams will be without their first-round picks the next two seasons because of the Jalen Ramsey trade. So, getting young players who can contribute on cheap contracts will be important for the franchise to find their success once again.
With two second-round picks now, the Rams could look to replace Cooks with another wide receiver. This is a very deep wide receiver class, and the Rams could have multiple options to choose from in the second round.
There might be some more pressing needs for the Rams at other positions, but they could very well find a player capable of replacing Cooks in the second-round. Building through the draft is a great way to sustain success in the NFL. Now, the Rams once again have some options to play with in 2020.
