Los Angeles Lakers: 3 Reasons to trade for Chris Paul this offseason
By Nick Ziegler
– Addresses a need
While the Lakers have been one of the best teams in the league this season, they do have somewhat of a glaring need on their team. All season, the point guard position and being a playmaker has been an issue.
The Lakers have hoped that Rajon Rondo would be that guy for them. While we haven’t seen “Playoff Rondo” yet, there hasn’t been much of an indication that he is going to appear if there is a postseason.
Rondo has been especially bad on the defensive end of the court, as he is nowhere near the player that he used to be on that end of the court. If the Lakers added Paul, they would have fixed that issue and then some.
If the trade to get Paul didn’t cost them Alex Caruso, they would have a nice backup point guard who plays well with James when Paul needs a break. James is having a great season as the primary ball-handler and playmaker for the Lakers, but when he is off the court, the Lakers’ production on offense drops noticeably.
Adding Paul would help the Lakers a lot when James is off the court, and as a good shooter could play alongside LeBron.
