– Aging star

When the Lakers traded for Anthony Davis, many were worried about them giving up their young core. However, many overlooked the fact that Davis is still a young player and in his prime right now.

While the young core of the Lakers is playing well in New Orleans so far, Davis is having an MVP caliber season, and the Lakers have the best record in the Western Conference. It is impossible to know what the young core of the Lakers would have done with the team this season, but it’s hard to imagine that they would have had the best record in the Western Conference.

Unlike the deal for Davis, the Lakers would likely be trading more assets for an aging star. At 34-years-old, Paul can’t have too many great seasons left in him. As mentioned before, he is making a ton of money, and that is a recipe for disaster.

While adding Paul could be the final piece for a ring, it would be a heavy investment for the Lakers to make with multiple stars over 34 years old. As we saw last season with James, he is human and can miss time with injuries. If the Lakers went all-in and added Paul, their window to win and sustain success would be small.
