– Justin Herbert

With the sixth overall pick in the draft, the Chargers decided to draft their quarterback in Justin Herbert. This is certainly an interesting pick, as Herbert was viewed as a reach to many in this spot. However, he fills a need for the Chargers at the quarterback position.

There are some positives about Herbert and some negatives. Physically, Herbert checks all the boxes. He is big, tall, fast, and has a strong arm. However, that didn’t necessarily translate to success on the field always.

Herbert does have a strong arm, but it isn’t the most accurate one. Also, he struggles with making consistent underneath throws. The Chargers will certainly have some good weapons surrounding Herbert, as he is walking into a pretty good situation.

While Herbert does fill a need, the Chargers might have been better off either moving up to take Tua Tagovailoa or addressing the need on the offensive line with a tackle. The Herbert pick feels like a bit of a reach, as he will certainly need to work on some things if he wants to succeed in the NFL.
