Intangibles

Herbert was named the MVP of the Rose Bowl after he helped lead the Oregon Ducks to a comeback 28-27 win over the Wisconsin Badgers. After marching 75 yards in just 12 plays to open the game with a touchdown, the Ducks struggled on offense accumulating just 129 yards of total offense the rest of the game.

Herbert was able to wake up the Ducks moribund offensive attack when it mattered most. Despite just throwing for 138 yards in the game Herbert was still the best player on offense. Herbert used his athleticism to rush for three touchdowns, the last one a 30-yard scamper that provided the winning margin.

Herbert will be asked to use his athleticism at the next level and the Chargers can exploit Herbert’s intangibles that they couldn’t with Rivers who had become old and immobile.

Conclusion

The Chargers drafted an intelligent quarterback with an accurate arm who can beat you with his feet when needed. When all is said and done, the Chargers might have just secured their future for another 16 years.
