Bleacher Report recently named who will be the biggest impact rookie for each team in the NFL. For the LA Rams, it was one of their second-round picks.

Coming into the 2020 NFL Draft, the LA Rams had some needs on both sides of the ball. It was a very disappointing 2019 season for the Rams, and they are hoping to turn it around in 2020.

Even though they lost a few big names, the Rams still have a lot of their core from the 2018 NFC Championship team. However, that similar team didn’t get the job done in 2019.

Now, the Rams have added some new players, as they will be hoping to create a bit of a spark for the team. The Rams came into the 2020 NFL Draft with two second-round picks, and they used them both to fill the positions of two former key players they lost.

In the second round, the Rams selected Cam Akers to replace Todd Gurley and then Van Jefferson to replace Brandin Cooks. Recently, Bleacher Report released a list of the rookies that will have the biggest impact in their rookie seasons for their respective teams. For the Rams, it was Akers who got the nod.

Choosing Akers certainly makes sense, as he is the rookie most likely to have a strong season for the Rams, and could even end up being one of the better rookies in the NFL depending on his usage.

The Rams offense has always been at its best when it is balanced and running the ball well. One of the reasons for the struggles of the Rams last season was the injury situation surrounding Gurley. When Gurley wasn’t playing like one of the best running backs in the league, the Rams offense did not look very good.

Without the great play-action passing game, Jared Goff was unable to carry the load and throw the Rams to victories. While Goff had some big games, the Rams didn’t reach the playoffs, and part of that is because of the offense struggling.

With Akers, the Rams will be hoping to find that balance once again on offense. Set up the running game and then let Goff utilize the play action pass, which he has proven to be ready good at. If Akers beats out Darrell Henderson for the starting spot, he could end up having a very strong season in Los Angeles.
