– Best in the West

When it comes to selecting an MVP, generally it goes to someone that is one of the best teams in the NBA. After missing the playoffs for a bunch of years in a row now, the Lakers are finally back to where they belong on top of the Western Conference.

Before the NBA season being suspended, the Lakers had the best record in the Western Conference and the second-best overall record in the NBA behind the Milwaukee Bucks. The Lakers were able to recently get a big win over the Bucks at home before the suspension, as it was a statement to the rest of the league that they could compete.

In this year’s MVP voting, it will likely come down to James and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Giannis is the best player on the best team in the Eastern Conference, but James has the most recent win against him in the regular season.

That win by the Lakers and the performance of James made what seemed like an MVP race that was done a lot closer. If and when the season resumes, James can continue to lead the Lakers and strengthen his case for the award. Getting the best record in the Western Conference will certainly help that.
