– Arrival of Davis

The main reason for the success of James in his second season compared to his first was the arrival of Anthony Davis. After the Lakers’ season began to fall apart last season, the rumors surrounding a potential deal for Davis didn’t help. Young players were experiencing their names being mentioned in trade rumors for the first time, and they didn’t handle it well.

This summer, the Lakers finally got a deal done with the Pelicans, as they sent most of their young core to New Orleans for Davis. Getting James a second star was a welcomed sight, and with Davis in his prime, he might be the best player that James has ever played with.

While Davis is a great player, the trade just seemed to bring a new spark to James’ game. Davis is one of the best defensive players in the league, and he has inspired James to be better on that end of the court, which is something we didn’t see in his first season with the Lakers.

Like James, Davis is having a great season. On paper, most thought that the two would gel nicely, as Davis is a capable player outside of the paint with a nice mid-range game, and even the ability to hit an occasional 3-pointer. However, it was amazing to see the chemistry these two had right from the start. With another bonafide superstar, James has had a great second season in Los Angeles.
