Since the failed super team for the Lakers, things haven’t been good for the franchise. With an aging Kobe Bryant at the time and lacking draft capital, the rebuild for the Lakers was a long and challenging one.
When the Lakers were able to sign LeBron James, it instantly made the expectations go up in Los Angeles. James was coming off of eight straight NBA Finals appearances, and missing the playoffs seemed very unlikely.
However, when James went down with the groin injury, the Lakers weren’t able to keep up the pace in a very challenging Western Conference. The injury to James was a clear indication that the Lakers were a little ways away from being a title contender.
When the Lakers added Davis, they added a second superstar to play with one of the best of all-time. As expected, the Lakers have been rolling with this duo, as it could be one of the best that we have ever seen. The trade for Davis has resulted in the Lakers being in first place in the Western Conference, and that is no easy task.
