Recent Lakers rumors are that the NBA Board of Governors is planning on approving the league’s plan to resume the season.
For the last few months, recent Lakers rumors have been about when and if the season would resume.
The Lakers have certainly been hopeful that the season will resume, as they have the best record in the Western Conference and second-best record overall. Los Angeles was looking like a true title contender before the season being suspended.
Luckily, it looks like the Lakers and a good chunk of the NBA will be resuming the season. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the season will be resuming with eight regular-season games, and 22 teams overall.
The NBA's Board of Governors has a 12:30 PM ET call on Thursday with the intention of approving the league's plan for a 22-team return-to-play in Orlando, sources tell ESPN. https://t.co/Sh7k6ylCdz

Due to the Western Conference being so close, adding more teams to fight for the final spots in the West is a good move. In addition to multiple teams from the West being added, the Washington Wizards in the East Conference will also be part of the 22-game restart.
Seeing the NBA not just jumping into the postseason is also very encouraging. With basketball being a game of rhythm and timing, it would have resulted in some ugly looking basketball if we jumped right into a postseason more than likely.
For the Lakers, they pretty much have the first seed in the West all wrapped up, but there is a lot of uncertainty underneath them in the standings. With the proposed rules, we could very well see a play-in tournament for the final spot in the Western Conference.
Sources: Joining the 16 current playoff teams in Orlando: New Orleans, Portland, Phoenix, Sacramento and San Antonio in the West and Washington in the East. If the 9th seed is more than 4 games behind the 8th, No. 8 makes playoffs; Fewer than 4 games, a play-in tournament.

With the Lakers getting games to warm up basically for the playoffs, this will allow the team to get back into their groove, and for Frank Vogel to finalize his rotations heading into the playoffs.
