Recent Lakers rumors are that Los Angeles is concerned about whether or not Dwight Howard will be playing when the season resumes.

With the season hopefully resuming for the NBA in about a month and a half, there are growing concerns about some players not wanting to play with the current situation going on in America.

Recently, Kyrie Irving has been leading a group of players that have been voicing their concerns about resuming the NBA. Their concern is that resuming the season will be taking away from what has been going on in America since the death of George Floyd.

It is a pretty large group of players that feel playing basketball right now isn’t the right thing to do, including Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard. Dave McMenamin of ESPN recently reported that the Lakers are unsure about whether or not Howard will be playing.

"The Lakers were initially concerned that Howard planned to sit out the rest of the season to focus on the social injustices facing Black and African-Americans in this country based on the sentiments he shared on the call and the subsequent statement he issued, sources told ESPN.Howard’s agent, Charles Briscoe, told ESPN on Sunday that his client hasn’t made a decision about playing basketball again this season because basketball is the furthest thing from his mind at this moment."

With the situation in America being a difficult one for many right now, players like Howard have every right to voice there opinion about how they feel about resuming the season right now. However, there seems to be a divide in the players association about whether or not playing takes away from what many are trying to do.

With a little over a month before the season is set to resume, McMenamin also said that Howard’s teammates believe they can become united on the matter.

If Howard did end up sitting out for the Lakers, it would be a big blow to the team. Even though Howard isn’t a starter, he and JaVale McGee have been an excellent 1-2 punch at the center position.

Howard’s career looked like it was almost over before the Lakers took a chance and signed him. However, he has said and done all the right things in his second stint with the Lakers. Hopefully, things improve in America and the Lakers are able to be a unified group heading into the playoffs.
