The Los Angeles Rams will take center stage this fall when they appear on HBO’s hit series, “Hard Knocks.”
It has been a long two years for the Rams. In June of 2018, Sean McVay was coming off his rookie season as a head coach, and boy was it an impressive one.
McVay had turned these Rams around in what seemed like the blink of an eye. The Rams made the playoffs for the first time in 13 seasons during his first year as head coach. Quarterback Jared Goff no longer looked like the bust many thought he was, but instead, on his way to being the franchise quarterback they had hoped for.
Fantasy football fans had hope once again for running back Todd Gurley, who McVay had turned into a fantasy superstar and league MVP candidate. It was all coming together for the Rams, and teams in need of a coach around the NFL were trying to find their version of McVay. It looked as though the Rams were becoming the model of modern football.
Then, in 2018, McVay and the Rams dominated the NFC en route to a 13-3 record and Super Bowl appearance. It was on the biggest stage where everything finally started to unravel, and boy did it happen quickly.
From the Super Bowl loss on, the Rams weren’t the same. In 2019, the team went 9-7. Gurley’s health was even more in question and ultimately led the Rams to cut him in 2020. Goff was good, but not great. The defense was no where near where fans thought it could be with the names they have on that side of the ball.
Now, heading into 2020, McVay and his squad will attempt to right the ship — this time, it’ll be on primetime television. Along with the Chargers, the Rams will be featured on this year’s season of Hard Knocks on HBO. With so much pressure on the team to return to where they were just a short time ago, there are three players we can’t wait to watch on the upcoming series.
