Lakers Rumors: Jason Kidd seen as the link to Giannis Antetokounmpo
By Nick Ziegler
Recent Lakers rumors are that Jason Kidd is reportedly the link to signing Giannis Antetokounmpo when he hits free agency.
As we prepare for the start for the season in Orlando, recent Lakers rumors have been about Jason Kidd.
With some teams having their seasons come to an end already, they have begun their offseason searches for new coaches. One of those teams is the New York Knicks.
The Knicks have been a mess over the past few years, but they have a new front office and are looking to hire a new coach. One of the names that they have been linked to is Jason Kidd. The Lakers have already reportedly permitted the Knicks to speak with Kidd, as he could be a potential candidate.
In addition to Kidd reportedly interviewing for the job, Steve Popper of Newsday reported that some people believe Kidd is the key to signing Giannis Antetokounmpo when he hits free agency.
Kidd was Giannis’ coach with the Milwaukee Bucks. With a young Bucks team, Kidd didn’t meet the high expectations after coming over from the Brooklyn Nets. However, Giannis certainly seemed to like Kidd an awful lot and might desire to play with him again.
For the Knicks, they haven’t been able to recruit a star player to sign in free agency in a very long time. The franchise has the reputation of being dysfunctional, and James Dolan is widely considered to be the worst owner in the NBA.
However, if Kidd does have the inside track to bring Giannis somewhere other than Milwaukee, it would be huge for the Knicks, and any other franchise who might pursue Kidd as a head coaching candidate.
Giannis is one of the few players in the NBA that it would be worth to go all-in for, as he can quickly turn even the Knicks into one of the best teams in the league. As the Knicks continue to go through their hiring process, it will be interesting to see if Kidd continues to interest them.
