Lakers: 3 Players who need to perform well to win a championship
By Nick Ziegler
Danny Green
The final player that will be crucial for the Lakers to win a ring is Danny Green. After missing out on Kawhi Leonard in free agency, the Lakers quickly snatched up his teammate from Toronto.
While Green is not a superstar like Leonard, he is a proven winner and an excellent complimentary piece to superstars. Green is one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA, and also one of the best shooters. Being able to do both makes Green valuable for a team, as he doesn’t need to constantly have the ball in his hands to succeed.
Perhaps because of the money that Green was paid this offseason, people may think he should be doing more, however, he has been the perfect role player for the Lakers.
A lot of what Green doesn’t show up on a box score, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t playing well. Green’s value will be seen in the playoffs when he is guarding players like James Harden or Kawhi Leonard. While you can rarely completely stop superstars, you can bother them and slow them down.
If Green plays his normal good defense and shoots it above 37 percent from 3-point range in the playoffs, Los Angeles will be in good shape. With Avery Bradley out, the defense of Green will be extremely important for LA in the backcourt.
