What are 5 burning questions for the Los Angeles Chargers on the defensive side of the ball?

The Los Angeles Chargers appear to be at a true crossroads as they get ready for the 2020 season. The team is beginning a new era on offense with quarterback Justin Herbert leading the way. Meanwhile, on defense, the Chargers still have one of the most intriguing units in the NFL.

On every level of the defense, the Chargers seem to have players who are capable of making major impacts. The defensive line features a stout pass-rushing duo of Melvin Ingram and Joey Bosa, while the defense has Denzel Perryman, while the secondary has names such as Derwin James, Desmond King, and Rayshawn Jenkins.

Then there’s defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, who’s had experience building one of the best defensive units in the NFL history, with the Seattle Seahawks famous “Legion of Boom”. As Bradley heads into year four with the Chargers, Bradley has had a top ten defense on two separate occasions (2017 and 2018), however, the Chargers regressed to 14th overall in 2019.

With the offense going through a bit of a transition as well, it could be up to the defense to have to carry the load early on, especially with teams like the Kansas City Chiefs, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and New Orleans Saints on the schedule early in the season.

As the Chargers get ready for training camp, what are five burning questions that Gus Bradley and the rest of the defense will need to answer? Let’s break it all down and find out.
