Recent Los Angeles Lakers news isn’t good for the team, as Rajon Rondo has reportedly suffered a significant hand injury.

As the Los Angeles Lakers begin their quest for a title, the team suffered a big setback on Sunday night.

During practice, Rajon Rondo reportedly suffered a hand injury that is going to keep him out for an extended amount of time. With the season so close to resuming, this is not ideal for the Lakers.

So far, the Lakers have already had Avery Bradley announce that he wasn’t going to be joining the team in Orlando. Now, they will be down another point guard.

Even though Rondo has not had a great season for the Lakers, he has been their primary ball-handler when LeBron James is off the court. There has been a lot of chatter about the Lakers not being great on offense when James steps off the court this season, as he has been the primary ball-handler and playmaker.

While Rondo hasn’t been as good in his role off the bench as the team would have liked, the Lakers have been pretty successful as a team with him leading the second unit as the point guard, even if he hasn’t had a great season.

Now, the Lakers will have to get creative and try to figure something out. Before the league was suspended, they did sign Dion Waiters. Even though he hasn’t played much this season, Waiters has shown the ability to be a playmaker and a ball-handler off the bench in his career.

With the options being limited right now, Waiters could very well find himself playing a significant role for the Lakers when the season resumes. Waiters is capable of providing a spark off the bench and he could be the secondary playmaker the team has been wanting to see from Rondo all season.

Even though Rondo hasn’t been great this season, he looked like he was in fantastic shape heading to Orlando. For the last couple of years, we have heard all about playoff Rondo. As a veteran, regular-season games in December might not have excited him and brought the best out of him.

Unfortunately, now we won’t be able to see playoff Rondo for quite some time, as he looks like he will be missing a significant amount of the playoffs if he can come back at all.
