Cam Akers

Cam Akers was selected in the second round, 52nd overall by the Rams in the most recent draft. He was the fourth running back that came off the board and was one of the more talked about players going into the draft at his position. It was a great selection by the front office considering the question marks and uncertainties surrounding the running back position on the team.

In 36 games over three years at Florida State, the 5’10, 217-pound running back rushed for 2,875 yards on 586 attempts for an average of 4.9 yards a run while running into the endzone 27 times. In the passing game, he caught 69 passes for 486 yards (averaging seven yards a catch) and seven touchdowns.

Akers should form a committee with Henderson Jr at least to start off the season in order for the coaching staff to decide who they can trust more with the ball in their hands. With Akers being a rookie, new to the league and teams having very few, if any notes on him, he could very well usurp Henderson Jr as the Rams primary option in the backfield if he performs well.
