Los Angeles Lakers: How to pitch Giannis Antetokounmpo
By Nick Ziegler
With the Los Angeles Lakers being in Orlando stuck in a bubble with Giannis Antetokounmpo, could they make a pitch for the soon to be free agent?
As the Los Angeles Lakers get ready to restart their season, they are focused on winning a title in what has been one of the strangest years in the history of the NBA. For the Lakers, they have a very good chance to accomplish this goal.
The Lakers have the best record in the Western Conference, and second best record overall. The team in first place overall is the Milwaukee Bucks. The Bucks have become a contender on the back of Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Giannis already has an MVP under his belt, and he could win another one this season. With Giannis, the Bucks have yet to reach the NBA Finals, but this could finally be their year to get over the hump.
However, while the Bucks are the best team in the Eastern Conference, this is the NBA and free agency news is always something that will draw media attention. With a lot of players stuck in the bubble, tampering could be at an all-time high. Recently, Bleacher Report named how each team in the NBA can pitch Giannis on his upcoming free agency after next season. You can read the entire article here.
For the Lakers, they could make a huge impression on Giannis to end this season. Currently, the Lakers and the Bucks could meet in the NBA Finals. As we have seen in the past, players who can’t get over the top sometimes leave for other teams.
The Lakers would be able to make quite the pitch to Giannis, as they have two stars in LeBron James and Anthony Davis. While James is getting older, Davis would easily a true star next to Giannis. Also, if a possible Finals matchup happens between the two teams and Giannis loses, the old saying is if you can’t beat them, join them.
With one of his brothers already being with the franchise, Giannis should have a pretty good idea about what the organization is all about. Even though his free agency is a while away, the Lakers could certainly make a strong pitch.
