Lakers Rumors: Rob Pelinka not being considered for top executive
By Nick Ziegler
Recent Lakers rumors are that Rob Pelinka isn’t getting a lot of love in terms of being considered for the Executive of the Year.
As the Lakers get ready for the start of the NBA Playoffs, recent Lakers rumors have been about who on the team might be up for some awards from the regular season.
After a great season for the Lakers, they have a few players who are going to be in consideration to win awards. LeBron James is in the running to win the MVP award and Anthony Davis is a possibility to win Defensive Player of the Year.
One other person on the team who is deserving of some award recognition is, Rob Pelinka. After a disappointing first season with LeBron on the roster, the Lakers really turned it around, and Pelinka had a lot to do with that. Surprisingly, according to Brian Windhorst, Pelinka isn’t getting a lot of recognition among his peers for the job well done. Here’s what he said with text via Silver Screen and Roll.
"But some of his peers, many of whom had a history of dealing with Pelinka as an agent, seem to not want to give him much credit. Some cited the role of Rich Paul, the agent for James and Davis, in putting the team together. Others pointed to the Lakers being accused of and fined for tampering in recent years."
When looking at what Pelinka accomplished this offseason is pretty impressive, and he should certainly be in the mix for the award. First, Pelinka was able to pull off a blockbuster deal to acquire Anthony Davis.
In addition to trading for a superstar, Pelinka filled out the rest of the roster very nicely, which included getting Dwight Howard back on the team, and saw him resurrect his career.
While the moves to improve the roster were certainly good, Pelinka also got the Lakers a very strong coach in Frank Vogel. Like the front office with Magic Johnson last season, the coaching situation was a mess with Luke Walton as well last season.
However, Pelinka was able to really do a great job in his first year calling the shots, and the Lakers are in first place in the Western Conference. Even though Pelinka might not win the award this season, he has done a fantastic job for the Lakers.
