Breakdown
Daemon Hunt has great size and should only get better as he physically matures. He demonstrates superb puck-handling skills and has a lethal shot from the point in the man advantage. Hunt’s ability to fit a pass into a small window makes him a big-time puck distributor, which is seen in his 15 assists this past season.
He had a freak injury, in which he was cut on the arm with a skate and didn’t see the ice from the beginning of December to the end of February. Hunt was limited to only 28 games this year, but finished the season on a strong note, tallying five assists in the final six games before the shutdown. The Brandon, Manitoba native failed to light the lamp this year, but he’s good for nearly 4-5 shots per game from the blue line.
Defensively, Hunt is rock solid, and he can flat out level opposing forwards. He also has a very active stick that can jar the puck loose. Hunt is going to be a top-four pairing in the NHL.
Quotables
“A strong skater who uses different speeds to be effective. Defends well. Quick to create odd-man rushes. Will step up in all areas when finishing checks. More of a playmaking defenseman than a finisher. Good intangibles.” – NHL.com
