Los Angeles Dodgers: San Diego Padres load up to challenge for NL West
By Nick Ziegler
The Los Angeles Dodgers might have some serious competition in the NL West, as the San Diego Padres made some big moves at the MLB Trade Deadline.
Coming into the MLB Trade Deadline, the Los Angeles Dodgers looked like they would be cruising to a NL West Title once again. The Dodgers have the best record in the National League, and they look like they will be a World Series contender once again.
As the trade deadline came and went, the Dodgers didn’t make any big splashes. The team is already in good position, so this shouldn’t have come as too much of a surprise. However, what was a surprise was seeing how active a rival in their division was.
The San Diego Padres really are making a push to win this season, as they were big buyers at the trade deadline. So far this season, the Padres have been a fun, young team to watch, as Fernando Tatis Jr. is one of the brightest stars in all of baseball.
With the team having success, the organization decided to get them some more help, as they made some big deals. The Padres added, Mike Clevinger, Greg Allen, Austin Nola, Mitch Moreland, Austin Adams, Taylor Williams, and Dan Altavilla.
As you can see by all the names, the Padres almost added an entire new roster at the deadline, and the most notable of the moves was getting Clevinger. After running into some trouble with the Cleveland Indians, Clevinger will be getting a fresh start in San Deigo.
Clevinger will provide the Padres will a top half of the rotation kind of guy, which will be important come playoff time. With the Padres going all-in, the Dodgers all of a sudden might have to look over their shoulders.
Since the season is so short, it will be interesting to see what type of run the Padres can make on the Dodgers. However, this is still very much the Dodgers’ division to lose with the big lead and roster they have.
