1968

In the “Year of the Pitcher” the Dodgers bullpen of 1968 was probably their first modern bullpen in their history, no longer were starters forced to have to finish games they pitched accumulating 38 complete games their lowest total in 10 years.

The bullpens 2.69 ERA  is the lowest of any bullpen staffs except for one since the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles in 1958. The bullpen also had a .647 winning percentage compared to .422 for the starters.

Three relievers combined throw 242 1/3 innings while collecting 26 of the staffs 32 saves. Those relievers Jim Brewer (2.49), Jack Billingham (2.08) and Mudcat Grant (2.14) all had ERAs 2.00 or above. If it hadn’t been for the efficiency of their three relievers it is likely the Dodgers would not have finished as high as seventh place in the ten team NL.
