Los Angeles Lakers: Rajon Rondo proves to be exactly what they need
By Nick Ziegler
In Game 2 of their series with the Houston Rockets, the Los Angeles Lakers received a needed boost.
After losing Game 1 once again of a series, the Los Angeles Lakers found themselves in a very familiar spot trailing a team by one. However, like in their first round series against the Portland Trail Blazers, the Lakers were able to bounce back with a win.
The Lakers jumped out to a huge lead to start the game, and it looked like it was going to be an easy night. However, the Rockets were able to have a massive quarter of their own in the third to make it a ball game once again.
Blowing a big lead is something that no team wants to do, and the Lakers were able to handle it well. In the fourth quarter, the Lakers were once again able to turn it on and ended up beating the Rockets by eight points.
In the win, LeBron James and Anthony Davis continued their very strong play in the playoffs. James scored 28 points, while Davis led the team with 34 points. However, it was the play of the bench that really helped result in a win.
The return of “Playoff Rondo” helped the Lakers get a much needed boost to their bench unit. In 29 minutes, Rondo totaled 10 points, nine assists, and five steals. It was a great performance for Rondo, and one that will surely result in him being a key part of the rotation in Game 3 once again.
With the nine assists, Rondo had a positive impact on his teammates as well, as Markieff Morris and Kyle Kuzma were both in double figures, and scored rather efficiently. The impact of Rondo gave the Lakers exactly what they needed from the second unit, as he was an excellent playmaker.
Hopefully, Rondo can continue to stay healthy and perform at the “Playoff Rondo” level.
