LA Rams: Defense shows up in win over Dallas Cowboys
By Nick Ziegler
The LA Rams were able to secure their first win of the season, and in doing so, their defense looked good.
In Week 1 of the NFL season, the LA Rams were able to get a big win to open up their new stadium. Coming into the week, we all expected a good game from both the Rams and the Cowboys, and the game didn’t disappoint.
The Rams were able to win by three points, as the Cowboys make a questionable decision down the stretch, and then were called for offensive pass interference that probably shouldn’t have been called.
While the Rams might have caught a break on that one, a lot of credit should go out to their defense in the win. Last season, the Rams’ defense looked bad at points, but they certainly looked good against the Cowboys.
Coming into the season, the Cowboys have one of the best offenses in the league on paper and holding them to just 17 points is very impressive. The Cowboys were able to move the ball well, but the Rams were fairly good about not letting them score.
One of the big reasons for the success was the pressure they got on Dak Prescott. The Rams got to Prescott 3 times with Aaron Donald, Leonard Floyd, and Michael Brockers all sacking Prescott.
With the defense playing well, the Rams really tried hard to establish the running game in the win. Los Angeles ran the ball 40 times for 153 yards. While the yards per carry average wasn’t great at 3.8, it was good enough to keep the offense balanced, which was an issue last season.
Overall, getting a win in Week 1 is good for the Rams after a disappointing season last year. Next week, they will be attempting to keep it rolling, as they will be on the road for the first time this season against the Philadelphia Eagles.
