The Los Angeles Lakers will be getting ready for the Western Conference Finals, as they face off with the Denver Nuggets.

To the surprise of many, the Los Angeles Lakers will not be facing off against the Los Angeles Clippers in the Western Conference Finals this year.

When both teams were one and two in the conference, it looked like the matchup we were all waiting for would be happening this season. Both teams loaded up in the offseason with the Lakers getting Anthony Davis, and the Clippers bringing in Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.

However, the Clippers didn’t hold up their end of the bargain, as they blew a 3-1 series lead against the Nuggets. Despite being down by double-digits in multiple games, the Nuggets were able to find a way to come back and win those games, and the series.

Perhaps with the 3-1 lead, the Clippers might have looked past the Nuggets to the Lakers. Considering the two teams were battling it out most of the season to rule Los Angeles, that type of look ahead could be natural.

For the Lakers, they won’t be looking past the Nuggets at all after the beat the Clippers. Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray have been playing great basketball, as Murray has emerged as the second star the Nuggets have needed.

However, the Lakers have two stars of their own in Anthony Davis and LeBron James. It will be very interesting to see how the matchups start in this series, as the Lakers did make some lineup changes when facing the ultra-small Houston Rockets.

With the Milwaukee Bucks eliminated in the East and the Clippers out in the West, the heavy NBA Title favorites should now be the Lakers. After a great season, hopefully, the Lakers don’t suffer any letdowns like the Clippers.
