The Los Angeles Lakers were able to win the NBA Championship, proving that trading for Anthony Davis was the right move.

Despite the season going on for much longer than anyone could have expected last season, the Los Angeles Lakers were able to win their 17th NBA Title in the NBA Bubble.

Coming into the season, there was a lot of pressure on the Lakers to succeed. The year prior, despite signing LeBron James, the team missed the playoffs. In addition to missing the playoffs, there was a lot of changes made in the front office and on the coaching staff.

The once storied Lakers franchise looked like an absolute mess, but they were able to get it back under control this offseason. After failing to get Anthony Davis at the trade deadline last season, the Lakers’ first priority this offseason was to get a deal done for him.

Rob Pelinka was able to get a deal done for Davis to pair up two superstars, and while it cost the Lakers quite a bit, it has certainly paid off with them winning a title. As we have seen for the last 10 years, winning a championship in the NBA is no easy task.

The Lakers might have taken for granted having a star like Kobe Bryant to always rely on and keep them competitive. However, those players don’t come around all that often.

Even though the Pelicans might be set up nicely with the young core from the Lakers, the NBA showed this season once again that it takes superstars to win titles. For the Lakers, having one in LeBron James who isn’t slowing down at 35 is great, but they also have one in Davis who is much younger.

While Davis is in need of a new contract, it seems highly unlikely that he would leave Los Angeles and James for anywhere else. Unless the Pelicans start a dynasty with the young core of the Lakers, this was a great trade for Los Angeles.
