The Los Angeles Chargers already exceeded expectations this season under new head coach Jim Harbaugh. They won more games than they won all of last season and are on pace to make the postseason with one of the wild card spots in the AFC.

The defense has been outstanding all year, ranking first in the NFL in points allowed. At the same time, the Bolts are still a few pieces away from being a true Super Bowl contender.

To take the next step in the process, the Chargers need to part ways with a few disappointing players in the offseason. Few Chargers who are in the final year of their contracts are making it easy for the front office to let them walk in the spring. Let's take a look at who those players are.

Asante Samuel Jr.

After being one of the standout performers in the 2023 season, Asante Samuel Jr. has had a star-crossed year so far. He played in the first four games of the season and wasn't particularly impressive before landing on the injured reserve list. It was reported that he suffered a shoulder injury outside of practice.

Since then, we heard very little about Samuel and his potential return. Head coach Jim Harbaugh provided a confusing answer last week when he was asked about the talented cornerback and said the organization told him to only provide updates when needed.

How little the Chargers have shared about the status of one of their starters has been eyebrow-raising. The organization hasn't provided any sort of timeline throughout the two months Samuel has missed.

The 25-year-old cornerback is a free agent after this season. The Bolts haven't missed him, as they currently have the best defense in the league. Cam Hart and Tarheeb Still stepped up admirably in his absence and Kristian Fulton has been having a very nice season. The Chargers should have no trouble parting ways with Samuel in the offseason.
