Ahkello Witherspoon, CB

The veteran cornerback was surprisingly unsigned in the offseason after starting every game for the Rams last season and registering three interceptions. He was a big part of the defense and only allowed a 48.1% completion rate when targeted in 2023.

The Rams eventually brought Ahkello Witherspoon back, and the 29-year-old cornerback has been a part of the backfield rotation since then. He is firmly behind Cobie Durant and Darious Williams, as he has played 48% of available snaps and hasn't really demonstrated why he should play over them.

In nine games, Witherspoon has allowed a 71.4% completion rate, and a 116.8 passer rating when targeted. He has a missed tackle percentage of 23.5 and is allowing more receiving yards per target than in any season of his career. His PFF defensive grade of 62.3 places him 69th among 118 qualified cornerbacks.

Plus, Witherspoon will turn 30 before the start of next season. As he approaches the wrong side of the age curve for a cornerback, the Rams will have to think twice before retaining him in the offseason. He is still a competent veteran and a fine backup option but the Rams likely need upgrades in the position. Witherspoon is a pending free agent and he will likely find a home elsewhere but it's likely not in Los Angeles.
