Roster change is inevitable in the NBA. Unless something changes, these four Los Angeles Lakers players are likely entering their final season with the franchise.

2. D'Angelo Russell

D'Angelo Russell's 2023-24 performance was quite the familiar experience for Lakers fans.

As usual, the veteran point guard was solid during the regular season. Suiting up in 76 games — his most since 2018-19, Russell averaged 18.0 points, 6.3 assists, 3.1 rebounds, and 0.9 steals while shooting 45.6% from the field and a career-high 41.5% from three-point range.

And then the postseason happened. Russell's offensive production dropped to 14.2 points on .384/.318/.500 splits while adding 4.2 assists and 2.8 rebounds across five playoff games. He finished Game 3 against the Denver Nuggets with zero points, which is even worse considering that the Lakers only lost that game by seven points.

After much speculation about his potentially becoming a free agent, Russell opted into his $18.7 million player option for the 2024-25 campaign in June. The 28-year-old playmaker is set to be a part of Redick's starting lineup, however, that doesn't mean he has a long-term future in Los Angeles.

Playing on a one-year contract, Russell could easily depart in free agency next year. There were also rumors that the Lakers considered trading Russell last season in hopes of adding another star to play alongside James and Anthony Davis, so his name could end up back in the rumor mill if a similar trade opportunity arises.
