5 Chargers Making Their Final Playoff Run With L.A. in 2025
2. DJ Chark Jr., WR
The Chargers revamped their WR core over the offseason. Glue guys like Keenan Allen and Mike Williams were moved on from and Los Angeles looked at other guys.
The biggest addition to that room was rookie receiver Ladd McConkey, who was added in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He leads the team in targets, catches, and receiving yards. While that's encouraging to see, other guys Los Angeles brought in haven't been as productive as they imagined.
D.J. Chark Jr. is one of these players. He signed a one-year, $3 million with the club in May 2024. They hoped he would have been an athletic, deep threat to the team but that didn't happen. Chark has only played in six games for the Chargers, logging three catches for 25 yards.
Throughout the year, he's dealt with hip, groin, and elbow injuries that landed him on IR. The LSU product has shown that he could be a solid playmaker in the league yet it hasn't been the case for the Chargers.
He'll be a depth piece for them in the postseason but don't expect him to stay with the Los Angeles long term.
3. Hayden Hurst, TE
Tight end Hayden Hurst was another playmaker brought in over the offseason. Hurst inked a one-year, $1.1 million deal as a free agent. The Chargers were hoping to get an athletic pass catcher over the middle of the field. Instead, Hurst was dealt with injuries, landing on IR at one point.
Hurst was activated off IR on Dec. 19, giving them an additional option at tight end but he's firmly behind Will Dissly. Entering Week 18, the South Carolina product had put up eight catches for 73 yards. Those numbers aren't good enough in combination with the injuries.
Hurst will also be 32 years old by the time the 2025 season starts, so it's easy to see why the Chargers will likely head in a different direction. They made a dart throw adding Hurst but it didn't work out in their favor.
