3. Kristian Fulton, CB
Kristian Fulton was selected with the 61st pick in the 2020 NFL draft by the Tennessee Titans. Unfortunately for the Titans, Fulton dealt with injuries, and his play didn't live up to the expectations of where he was selected. As a result, Tennessee opted not to extend Fulton when his rookie deal expired.
Consequently, the Chargers, who were looking for cornerback help last offseason, signed Fulton to a one-year deal worth $3.125 million. Signing Fulton on a cheap contract had a chance of paying off massively. Harbaugh and his coaching staff have a knack for getting the best out of players.
Fulton ended 2024 with a pass rush grade of 60.0, a run defense grade of 79.3, a coverage grade of 67.9, and an overall grade of 71.1, according to PFF. His 71.1 overall grade places him as the 40th-best overall corner, which is the highest he has ever finished.
Yet, Fulton's 67.9 coverage grade ranks him as the 62nd cornerback, meaning he was barely considered a No. 2 cornerback in 2024 by PFF.
Fulton's performance simply wasn't enough to pencil him in as a long-term piece for this defense, so the resources spent to retain him would likely be better spent elsewhere.
