5. Joshua Palmer, WR
Los Angeles selected Joshua Palmer with the 77th pick in the 2021 NFL draft. During his first three seasons, Palmer was the No.3 receiver behind Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. However, Palmer ended up having many opportunities due to Williams's consistent injury issues.
Palmer's best season with Allen and Williams on the roster was the 2022 season, when he caught 72 passes on 107 targets for 769 yards and three touchdowns in 16 games. A standout season like that had some fans thinking the Chargers had found another solid receiver.
Sadly, Palmer has failed to get back to that mark in the past two seasons. In 2023, Palmer caught 38 passes on 61 targets for 581 yards and two touchdowns in ten games. Although that's decent production, that is not what is expected from a No. 2 receiver.
That said, 2024 was Palmer's chance to lock in his No.2 receiver status with the Chargers, given the drop issues of Quentin Johnston. Yet, he failed to do so, recording only 39 catches on 65 targets for 584 yards and one touchdown. Palmer ended the season with 130 fewer yards than Johnston, even with all the drops Johnston had.
As a result, it's likely the Chargers move one from the 25-year-old and look to find some more reliable receivers through free agency and the draft this offseason.
