QB Jimmy Garoppolo

The Los Angeles Rams signed Jimmy G in the 2024 offseason and made him their backup quarterback despite his two-game suspension to start the season. The 33-year-old didn't see the field until the regular-season finale after the Rams clinched the playoffs.

While it's nice to have a competent veteran as QB2, the Rams need to find a long-term solution at quarterback in a post-Matthew Stafford world. Stafford turns 37 in the offseason, and even though he hasn't revealed a desire to retire any time soon, the organization needs to prepare for that eventuality.

Considering that Stetson Bennett is almost certainly not that long-term solution, the Rams need to take a flyer on a potential quarterback of the future. A promising rookie who can learn under Stafford for a year or two could be the perfect transition plan.

This means that the Rams are likely better off letting Jimmy G walk in free agency. Garoppolo won a Super Bowl as a rookie as Tom Brady's backup in New England and came close to winning twice with the 49ers. He will be hoping to win behind Stafford this time around but that may be his last chance to do so in Los Angeles.
