Chargers Cut Specialist Just Hours Before MNF Kickoff

The Los Angeles Chargers will wrap up the Week 12 slate against the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night. The Chargers will look to win their fifth consecutive game after taking down the Cincinnati Bengals, 34-27, last week in primetime.
However, before the Chargers and Ravens face off at SoFi Field, they made a few notable moves to the active roster. According to Daniel Popper of The Athletic, Los Angeles waived safety AJ Finley.
The Chargers had to part ways with the preseason standout to help make room for the other gameday activations and signings.
The 23-year-old defensive back was on the injury report this week with an ankle injury. Finley was hit with the limited DNP tag for Thursday and Friday practices. However, he was upgraded to limited on Saturday and ultimately listed as questionable.
Finley played outstanding in the preseason this summer to win the third safety job. But he hasn’t seen much time during the regular season. Finley only played seven percent of defensive (43) and 61 percent of special teams snaps (170).
The 6-foot safety has recorded 10 combined tackles, but only four on special teams. Los Angeles will hope Eli Apple, Tony Jefferson Sr., and Deane Leonard can all make an impact. Leonard was primarily a special teams contributor before going on injured reserve.
Since he was waived, Finley will have to clear waivers. Once he does that, the young defender can sign with any other team or hopefully return to Los Angeles.
