Chargers Cut Ties With 7 Players Immediately After Playoff Loss
By Jovan Alford
The Los Angeles Chargers had their 2024 season end rather quickly after losing last weekend to the Houston Texans in the wildcard round of the 2025 NFL playoffs. Los Angeles exceeded everybody’s expectations in Jim Harbaugh’s first year, giving this team room for growth heading into the offseason.
Speaking of the offseason, the Chargers have already gotten a head start as they are working on putting together their 90-man roster.
On Monday, Los Angeles signed 10 players from its practice squad to reserve/future contracts, which means they will get a chance to compete for spots on the 53-man during minicamp and training camp this upcoming summer.
The 10 players that the Chargers signed were OG Karsen Barnhart, TE McCallan Castles, WR Dez Fitzpatrick, DL Christopher Hinton, LB Jeremiah Jean-Baptiste, WR Jaylen Johnson, OLB Tre’Mon Morris-Brash, OLB Caleb Murphy, RB Jaret Patterson, and S Kendall Williamson.
However, several other players were not signed to reserve/future contracts, who were on the practice squad. The following players were CB DiCaprio Bootle, S Terrell Edmunds, RB Ezekiel Elliott, FS Eddie Jackson, DL CJ Okoye, TE Eric Tomlinson, and CB Shaun Wade.
It’s not shocking to see veteran players like Edmunds, Elliott, and Jackson not get signed to reserve/future deals by Los Angeles as they likely want to test the open market. Elliott was signed to the taxi squad before last week’s playoff game against the Houston Texans.
The veteran running back did not get elevated from the practice squad for the game after the Dallas Cowboys released him ahead of Week 18.
Meanwhile, Jackson was signed to the Chargers practice squad on Dec. 23 after he was waived from the Baltimore Ravens in November. The veteran safety appeared in Los Angeles’ last three games, including the playoff game against Houston.
Lastly, Edmunds was signed to the Chargers’ practice squad earlier this month after getting released by the Pittsburgh Steelers in November. He didn’t appear in the regular season finale or playoff game.
