The Los Angeles Chargers are looking to pick up their second-straight win on Saturday against the New England Patriots. Last week, the Chargers snapped their two-game losing skid, beating the Denver Broncos 34-27.

Los Angeles received a tremendous performance from veteran running back Gus Edwards, who had a season-high 68 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries.

With J.K. Dobbins hurt, the Chargers needed Edwards to step up and he delivered when his number was called. That said, Los Angeles will not have Edwards for this weekend’s game against the Patriots, but could maybe get Dobbins back.

Chargers News: Gus Edwards Ruled Out for Week 17, J.K. Dobbins Listed as Questionable

According to ESPN’s Kris Rhim, Edwards was among three Chargers players ruled out for Saturday’s game in Foxborough. Meanwhile, Dobbins is listed as questionable after being designated for return from injured reserve earlier this week.

On Thursday, Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters that the veteran running back hurt his ankle last week against the Broncos and aggravated it in practice, per Rhim. Harbaugh added he wasn’t sure if it was the same ankle that put Edwards on injured reserve.

With Edwards sidelined for Saturday’s game, rookie Kimani Vidal and Hassan Haskins could see an uptick in snaps out of the backfield. However, the Chargers hope Dobbins is ready to play after getting two limited tags on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The veteran running back was listed as a DNP on Thursday’s final Week 17 injury report, but the questionable tag gives hope that he could play. The 26-year-old running back has missed the last four games after suffering a knee injury in Week 12 against the Baltimore Ravens.

This season, Dobbins has rushed for 766 yards and eight touchdowns on 158 carries. He’s also been a factor in the passing game with 28 receptions (34 targets) for 134 yards. Nonetheless, if he can play on Saturday, that would be a huge addition for the Chargers against a poor Patriots’ run defense (130.4 rushing yards per game allowed).
