The Los Angeles Chargers have taken a conservative approach in the early stages of free agency despite having an influx of cap space.

They reportedly re-signed veteran pass rusher Khalil Mack, defensive tackle Teair Tartt, and punter JK Scott, and center Bradley Bozeman.

As for outside free agents, Los Angeles reportedly signed veteran running back to a one-year deal worth up to $9.25 million and veteran cornerback Donte Jackson to a two-year contract. As you can imagine, Chargers fans aren’t too excited about these moves after making the playoffs for the first time since 2022.

Chargers Re-Sign Veteran Linebacker Troy Dye

The Chargers continued that trend on Wednesday, bringing back another one of their players, Troy Dye. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Los Angeles re-signed the veteran linebacker to a two-year, $5.5 million deal with the opportunity to earn up to $8.5 million.

Rapoport added that Dye received interest from several teams but decided to re-sign with the Chargers.

The 28-year-old linebacker is coming off a solid season with the Chargers. The former Oregon standout signed a one-year deal last offseason with LA after spending the first four years of his career with the Minnesota Vikings.

Dye played a career-high 29% of defensive snaps in Jesse Minter’s scheme, but spent most of his time on special teams (80%). The veteran linebacker had 57 combined tackles, two tackles for loss, two quarterback hits, and 1.5 sacks.

Despite not playing much on defense, Dye made the most of his opportunities as he shined in run defense. According to PFF, the veteran defender recorded an 80.9 run defense grade (25th among 189 linebackers).

The Chargers will look for Dye to be an integral part of what they do on special teams, along with his contributions on defense over the next two years.
