Chargers Listed as a Potential Destination for All-Pro WR

The Los Angeles Chargers will be looking to improve their WR situation this offseason. Could that lead to them targeting an All-Pro wideout this offseason?

The 2024 NFL season was a productive year for the Los Angeles Chargers, who made a Wild Card Round appearance after going 11-6 during the regular season. The Chargers will attempt to build on that success this offseason as they look to address various roster needs, including the wide receiver room.

Outside of Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston, and Josh Palmer, the Chargers struggled to get consistent production from their wideouts. General manager Joe Hortiz must do what he can to surround quarterback Justin Herbert with another game-changing playmaker if he wants Los Angeles to be a legitimate Super Bowl contender in 2025.

Fortunately, the perfect offseason target appears to be interested in joining Herbert & Co. in L.A.

Davante Adams Reportedly Interested in Joining Chargers

Recapping the latest NFL offseason buzz, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that New York Jets WR Davante Adams is interested in playing for a West Coast team — including the Chargers.

"A source told me Adams is intrigued by a return to the West Coast and would be open to potentially joining teams such as the Rams or Chargers — if he gets released," Fowler wrote on Saturday.

Professional athletes often want to play for their local sports team, so it isn't surprising to learn that Adams is open to joining the Chargers. The 32-year-old playmaker was born and raised in East Palo Alto, where he also played high school football before committing to Fresno State for college.

Adams went on to spend his first eight NFL seasons with the Green Bay Packers before being traded to the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022, which brought him closer to his family on the West Coast.

“(Playing near family) really matters to me,” Adams told Las Vegas Sun's Case Keefer in March 2022. "That’s stuff that really does weigh on my mind when there’s a decision to be made."

Adams' time with the Raiders ended in October when he was reunited with former Packers teammate Aaron Rodgers on the Jets before the NFL trade deadline. After the reunion failed to produce a postseason appearance, New York could be looking at cutting the veteran WR this offseason.

According to Spotrac, the Jets will save $29.9 million if they release Adams before June 1 or $36.2 million after that date. Whenever his release potentially occurs, the Chargers shouldn't waste any time offering him a contract.

Even if he's no longer in his prime, Adams is still good enough to draw some coverage away from McConkey while giving Herbert another reliable weapon. The ex-Fresno State Bulldog recorded 85 catches for 1,063 receiving yards and eight touchdowns in 14 games between the Raiders and Jets last season, marking his fifth consecutive 1,000-yard performance.

Free agency doesn't begin until March 12, so the Chargers still have a ways to go before they can sign Adams in the event of a buyout. In the meantime, Los Angeles heads into the next chapter of the NFL offseason with the 11th-best Super Bowl 60 odds (+2900) on FanDuel Sportsbook.
