Chargers Move on From Surprise Veteran in New Insider Projection
The Los Angeles Chargers are 6-3 on the season and are one the biggest surprises of the year. Last season, they went 5-12 and already surpassed that win total under Jim Harbaugh's guidance.
The entire identity of the team has shifted in a positive direction and they are looking to make a playoff push in the second half of the season.
Even though that is the focus of this team, members of the media are taking a peek at the 2025 offseason. ESPN's Dan Graziano released an article discussing potential cut or trade candidates around the NFL. In that piece, he mentioned the Chargers edge Joey Bosa as someone who could be on the outs after the season.
"Bosa turns 30 next July and is scheduled to make a non-guaranteed $25.36 million next season. Of that, $12.36 million is a roster bonus that has to be exercised at some point in March, so the Chargers will make this call early. They'd incur a little more than $11 million in dead money on their 2025 cap if they release him. Despite being tied for fourth in sacks (31), don't be surprised if the Chargers focus on restocking at the edge rusher spots this coming offseason. "

Over the last offseason, there was a lot of chatter about whether the team was going to release Bosa. Instead, he took a pay cut, going from $22 million to $15 million. That kept him around for 2024 but that may not be the case going forward.
He will have a big cap hit next season and Los Angeles could look to free up some of that money. The Ohio State product was the third overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft and has played with the Chargers for the past nine years.
The 29-year-old has been dealing with multiple injuries over the three seasons, limiting him to 20 games. In 2024, he missed three games due to a hip injury.
Bosa has compiled 70 career sacks, which is second in team history. Although nothing is set in stone, this is something to watch during the offseason.
