The Los Angeles Chargers have been one of the most surprising teams in the NFL. The Chargers are in prime position to make the playoffs, as they own a two-game lead over both the Indianapolis Colts and Miami Dolphins.

The Chargers are 8-6 going into Week 16. Los Angeles has dropped two consecutive games, including a gut-punching 40-17 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

Not only were they blown out, but Los Angeles is giving running back Gus Edwards fewer snaps. This indicates he's being phased out of the running back rotation.

Chargers News: Gus Edwards Was Outsnapped in Week 15

Rookie running back Kimani Vidal has played more snaps than Gus Edwards in the past two weeks. In Week 14, Vidal had 32 snaps compared to Edwards' 26 snaps. It continued to trend in that direction in Week 15. Against the Bucs, Vidal had 35 total snaps and Edwards had 14 snaps.

Los Angeles is forced to make changes in their backfield due to J.K. Dobbins being on IR with an MCL sprain.

The Ohio State product has been the main bellcow for the Chargers, logging 766 rushing yards and eight touchdowns this season. With him no longer in the fold right now, Los Angeles is looking at other options to fill the gap.

Edwards signed with the Chargers on a two-year, $6.5 million deal this offseason but hasn't made his presence felt on the field. In 2024, he has 297 rushing yards and two scores.

Los Angeles is looking for more juice and has looked at Vidal. The 23-year-old was selected in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft and has impressed the staff enough to see an uptick in snaps. He has compiled 107 rushing yards and 62 receiving yards this season.

While they wait for Dobbins to return, it looks like the Troy product will see the bulk of carriers in the backfield.
