The Los Angeles Rams have added quality players to an already talented bunch. When the legal tampering period opened up on Monday, the Rams added DL Poona Ford on a three-year, $29.6 million deal. While that bolsters their defensive line, the Rams made a big splash at receiver.
They signed Davante Adams to a two-year, $46 million deal that included $26 million guaranteed. He and Puka Nacua now form a new dynamic duo for the Rams' passing attack.
Despite being on the team for less than a week, Adams is making massive changes in the locker room. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Nacua is switching his jersey number from 17 to 12. He wore that number during his college days at BYU. That now opens the door for Adams to wear No. 17, which he's worn his entire NFL career.
During his stops with the Green Bay Packers, Las Vegas Raiders, and New York Jets, Adams has donned No. 17. Just last season when Adams got traded to the Jets, he coughed up a good amount of money to receiver Malachi Corley, who had been wearing No. 17, to give up the number. While there was no official amount revealed, it certainly had to be a pretty penny. And it likely was the same case with Nacua.
During an appearance on the St. Brown Podcast, Nacua said he wouldn't give Adams No. 17 even if he offered him $2 million.
Whether or not that is true remains a secret right now, but the odds are that Adams gave Nacua a substantial amount to get that number from him.
While wearing that number, Adams has put up 957 receptions for 11,844 receiving yards and 103 touchdowns. He's gone 1,000 yards for six straight seasons and is ready to bring that type of production over to the Rams.
