The Los Angeles Chargers have $90 million in cap space heading into free agency, which is the second most in the league.
The Chargers have a talented group, but one of their biggest needs comes at receiver. With free agency kicking off next week, Los Angeles will have a chance to upgrade that position, but one of the most explosive playmakers in DK Metcalf requested a trade, and it appears he wants to play for the Chargers.
The Athletic's Dianna Russini was a guest on "GoJo and Golic" podcast and revealed what she's been hearing around Metcalf.
She stated Metcalf wants a new deal, to play somewhere warm, and wants a more "stable" quarterback situation. And the Chargers check all those boxes.

DK Metcalf Seemingly Angling to Get Traded to Chargers
Russini added that Metcalf wants a deal that pays him $30 million annually, which is something Los Angeles can easily afford.
Justin Herbert would also be the most talented quarterback that Metcalf has played with, and that's enticing, considering there are questions around Geno Smith's future with the Seahawks. This pairing would make sense for both sides.
In six seasons (97 career games), Metcalf has compiled 438 receptions (726 targets) for 6,324 receiving yards and 48 touchdowns. He's a big play threat, averaging 15-plus yards per reception in four seasons.
Outside of Ladd McConkey, the Chargers badly need another dynamic weapon in the passing attack. Dating back to last offseason, Los Angeles was quietly but aggressively pursuing Metcalf, only to be turned away by Seattle. The fact that things have changed course one year later signals that Los Angeles should pounce.
Russini also added that Seattle is asking for a first and third-round pick in return for Metcalf but teams around the league aren't willing to pay that price. Even if the Chargers don't offer that combination of picks, they would be smart to make sure they have the best offer to land the 27-year-old.
