Dodgers Come Back In Game 5, Win 2024 World Series Against Yankees
By Rami Hanna
In a very crucial Halloween Eve edition of the World Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees battled it out in a back-and-forth game 5 that went both ways until the very end of the huge game.
The Dodgers did not get the sweep that they wanted in game four against the Yankees. As a matter of fact, the bullpen game that worked out for the Boys in Blue against the San Diego Padres in the NLDS and the New York Mets in the NLCS did not come in clutch when the Bronx Bombers made sure their nickname was just as terrifying as the home runs they were hitting left and right.
In game 5, it would be a rematch between pitchers Gerrit Cole and Jack Flaherty who were looking to give their respective teams a sigh of relief whether it was staying alive to advance to a game 6 in Los Angeles or shutting the dreams down for the Yankees who did not let go of the trigger and had put themselves into the driver seat when their chips were all on the table.
The first five innings of the game were dominated by New York. Aaron Judge would bring the team to life as the roar of the crowd pushed their morale and made sure their momentum was at coming to an all-time high where the Yankees had five runs in five innings while Cole was having a blast throwing a ton of heaters on the mound, getting six strikeouts, but allowing four hits and four hitters to be walked when they were looking to keep it scoreless in their favor.
However, it would be the fifth inning where the Boys in Blue lived up to their hype by knocking in five runs to tie up the game with a single from Mookie with bases loaded to score the first run before the next single from Freddie Freeman resulted in two runs coming in and then it was Teoscar Hernandez who shook off the cobwebs and knocked in a home run to tie up the game and make this an edge of your seat game between two of the greatest franchises in baseball history.
When the Yankees took the lead back, the Dodgers needed to put their foot on the gas and end this series, and boy did they ever. A sacrifice fly from Gavin Lux would allow Enriquez Hernandez to come home from third before a sacrifice fly from Betts would allow another run to come home to take the lead for the first time in game five.
In the end, with a one-score lead, the Dodgers would bring in one final pitcher with Walker Buehler taking the mound to close the game where he would face Anthony Volpe and put him away with a massive out at first base to knock in the first out of the bottom of the ninth inning.
Austin Wells was the next man up and he would be put away by Buehler with a strikeout to bring the Dodgers one more out away from a championship as the former Dodger Alex Verdugo would come up to try and save it for the Yankees before he was put away with a game-winning strikeout to give the Dodgers their second World Series Championship in five years.
Congratulations to the 2024 Los Angeles Dodgers who took it all the way to the 2024 World Series to cap off their eighth championship in their franchise's history.
