Former Los Angeles Lakers guard Patrick Beverley has had quite the career. From cutting his teeth overseas to becoming a meme to a three-time All-NBA Defensive Team selection, Beverley has made an impact no matter where he’s played.
But as Beverley enters his late 30s, he’s still finding a way on the court. The 36-year-old hasn’t played in the NBA this season but may be considering another comeback across the pond, replacing another familiar NBA name in the process.
Former Lakers Guard Patrick Beverley Reportedly Close to Signing With Real Madrid
According to Mozzart Sport, Real Madrid is considering signing Beverley for the remainder of the season. While a deal has not been finalized, his arrival would make up for the departure of Dennis Smith Jr., who left the team to pursue a return to the NBA, and help the Whites make a push toward the playoffs.
Beverley has spent the entire 2024-25 season overseas but the mercurial point guard left Israel team Hapoel Tel Aviv after he was suspended indefinitely for mocking head coach Dimitris Itoudis on social media.
Beverley was still effective when on the court, however, averaging 10.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.4 steals in 24 minutes per game in 14 EuroCup matches. He also averaged 10.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists during Israeli league play.
Signing with the Whites would be a homecoming for Beverley as he started his career in the EuroLeague with Olympiacos during the 2009-10 season. A second-round pick by the Lakers in the 2009 NBA Draft, Beverley spent three seasons overseas playing two more years with Spartak St. Petersburg before signing with the Houston Rockets before the 2012-13 season. He went on to enjoy a 12-year career in the NBA including a brief return with the Lakers during the 2022-23 season but split time with the Philadelphia 76ers and Milwaukee Bucks last season.
The Lakers have since moved on, acquiring Luka Doncic to be their centerpiece for this year’s playoff push and the future. But if Beverley plays well, it could offer another opportunity in the NBA next year. As fans have learned, whatever happens next with Beverley will certainly be entertaining.
