Los Angeles Lakers fans can file this story away under the weird, wild stuff tab as one of the team's big men from their most recent title run has found himself in the headlines for all the wrong reasons.
For those who were unaware, which I would have to think is the vast majority of Lakers fans, JaVale McGee recently signed on with Vaqueros de Bayamón, a team in the top tier of Puerto Rico's professional basketball league.
McGee, expectedly, has enjoyed plenty of success playing in this particular league after spending 16 years in the NBA. While the three-time NBA champion recorded a double-double in his first three games as a member of the Puerto Rican franchise, McGee was sent to the showers early in his fourth game with the team as an on-court altercation led to the big man being ejected.
JaVale McGee Got Ejected on Friday Night
As you can see from the clip above, this wasn't exactly the fairest scrap we've ever seen as McGee held a substantial height advantage over Angel Rodriguez. To Rodriguez's credit, though, he certainly wasn't intimidated by the much larger McGee and did not back down in any way. However, this isn't the type of incident you ever want to see play out on the hardwood.
Fortunately, the referees in charge were able to get a handle on things before they spiraled even further out of control. There is never any true upside to getting into a physical confrontation during a basketball game, and McGee was lucky that a shove to the chest and neck area of Rodriguez was as far as this altercation got before cooler heads prevailed.
If McGee wants to fight rather than play basketball, there are much more lucrative ways of getting that done. Unless he is lining up a bout against Jake Paul though, McGee would be best suited focusing on helping his new team win basketball games rather than picking fights.
