The Los Angeles Rams’ receiver room has been overhauled over the past two seasons. Puka Nacua arrived in the 2023 draft and immediately became one of the NFL’s most productive receivers. Cooper Kupp is now a member of the Seattle Seahawks and Davante Adams is taking his place ahead of next season.

But while are some are getting ready for what’s next, another wave of Rams are fitting in with their new team. Despite a quiet first season, a former Matthew Stafford target is getting a new contract in his new home and the multi-year deal could be shocking for a player with a minimal offensive role during his time in Los Angeles.

Former Rams WR Ben Skowronek Gets Two-Year Extension From Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced that wide receiver Ben Skowronek has agreed to a two-year contract to remain with the team. Arye Pulli of The Sports Place also added the deal is worth up to $4.5 million.

The deal is surprising considering Skowronek had a quiet season with the Steelers in 2024. After spending the first half of the season on injured reserve, the 27-year-old managed just five catches for 69 yards in 10 games.

Skowronek began his career as a seventh-round pick by the Rams in the 2021 draft and caught 11 passes for 133 yards in his rookie season. He earned a slightly larger role on offense, catching 39 passes for 376 yards in 2022 but has managed just 13 catches for 135 yards and a touchdown over the past two seasons with Los Angeles and Pittsburgh.

But like last year, his value was more than just stats. Arthur Smith used Skowronek at fullback, H-back and tight end while utilizing his ability with presnap motion. He’s also been consistent on special teams, logging a 70.1 grade in his rookie season, a 66.2 grade during the 2023 season and a 78.0 grade on 159 snaps last season according to Pro Football Focus.

Skowronek won’t have a massive offensive role with the Steelers acquiring DK Metcalf earlier this month. But he has found a niche that has helped him land a long-term home in Pittsburgh.
