Former Los Angeles Rams John Wolford has been sitting in free agency for multiple months since getting cut in training camp by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Wolford re-signed with Tampa Bay on a one-year deal in the offseason after spending the 2023 season with the Bucs.

The former Rams quarterback played in two of the Buccaneers’ preseason games this summer, completing 19-of-32 passes (59.4 percent) for 183 yards. He didn’t put up gaudy numbers, but he has starting experience, which could benefit a team looking for a QB3 during the regular season.

On Tuesday, the Jacksonville Jaguars announced that Wolford was among three players signed to the practice squad. The Jaguars needed another quarterback on the practice squad as starter Trevor Lawrence is in the league’s concussion protocol.

Mac Jones and C.J. Beathard are other active QBs on Jacksonville’s roster.

The last time Wolford started in a regular season game was in Week 13 of the 2022 season with the Rams. The former AAF standout completed a pedestrian 14-of-26 passes (53.8 percent) for 178 yards and two interceptions against the Seattle Seahawks. Wolford also had 29 yards on five carries.

Over his five-year career, Wolford has appeared in seven games (four starts) with the Rams. Los Angeles did not bring back Wolford for the 2023 season as they decided to go in a different direction at QB.

The Rams took Stetson Bennett in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft to backup Matt Stafford, but they signed veterans Brett Rypien and Carson Wentz last season.
