The Los Angeles Rams’ 2024 season ended last week, losing to the Philadelphia Eagles, 28-22 in the divisional round. The Rams overcame a 1-4 tough start and ended up going 9-3 the rest of the season en route to winning the NFC West crown.

After last week’s hard-fought loss to the Eagles, Rams starting quarterback Matthew Stafford was asked about his future and if he felt like he had more football left in him. Stafford said he would “take some time to think about it” regarding his future, per ESPN’s Sarah Bishop.

However, Stafford let it be known that he still has something left in the tank and that competitive fire is still there despite the tough loss to the Eagles. The 36 soon-to-be 37-year-old quarterback restructured his contract this past offseason, turning his contract this season into a one-year, $40 million deal.

Stafford has no guarantees for the 2025 season but reportedly has a $4 million signing bonus due in mid-March, per Jonathon Jones of CBS Sports. He also has two years left on his deal, but if the veteran QB wants to return to the Rams have to figure something out.

With all that being said, Nick Wright of First Things First on FS1 came up with an insane trade proposal involving Stafford, which would not make the Rams better.

Wright prefaced his proposal by saying that he would run it back with Stafford but said if the Rams want to get younger, he thinks Los Angeles should trade the veteran QB to the Miami Dolphins for Tua Tagovailoa.

It's a ridiculous trade proposal as the Rams would be better off drafting a QB if they want to get younger at the position. Between Stafford and Tagovailoa, the former gives you a better chance of winning now than Tagovailoa.

Stafford has an outstanding grasp of McVay’s offense and doesn’t look like he’s slowing down even at his age. This season, he threw for 3,762 yards, 20 touchdowns, and eight interceptions – almost similar to what Tagovailoa did in Miami despite playing 11 games (2,867 yards, 19 touchdowns, and seven interceptions).

The Rams eventually have to think about the future at QB, but trading Stafford for Tagovailoa would be terrible as he just signed a four-year, $212 million extension.
